Take
a Break with a Book!
Rocket
Reader Program
Kindergarten and 1st Grade
students may participate in the "Rocket Reader Program."
This program encourages and rewards students for reading. Each time a
book is read at home, students record the title of the book on their book
log. When 20 titles are recorded, they return the log to the media
center. The classroom teacher also keeps a record of how many books
are read on a classroom reading chart. Prizes are given when logs are
returned. At the end of the year the students who read the most books
receive trophies and ribbons.
Reading
Counts Program
All
students at Cape View Elementary participate in the Reading Counts
Program. Each time a student finishes reading an "RC" book,
they take a comprehension test on the computer. They earn points for
each question they answer correctly. At they end of the year,
students may "purchase" prizes from the "RC Store" with
their points. Students who earn the most "RC" points
receive trophies for outsanding performance.

Come Get Connected!
Students may visit our media center
as part of their activity schedule that also includes music, art, and
physical education. During our 40 minute classes, we do an activity that
reinforces reading and information literacy skills. Students also receive
instruction in research and media skills as the year progresses. We
implement all of the Sunshine State Standards content areas, but we focus
especially on language arts.

Book Fairs
Books Fuel
our Imaginations!
We have three Scholastic Book Fairs each year. The first one was held in
October . The second one was held in February, and the last one will be a
"buy one get one free" book sale May 5th to May 9th.
We are always looking for
volunteers to help staff our book fairs. If you are able to assist
with our book fair, please call and leave a message for Mrs. Wuensch at
784-0284.

Book Bash Team
The Book Bash Team is Cool!
Cape View
Elementary participates in the Sunshine State Reading Program. Each
year 15 books are selected at the 3rd - 5th reading level and the 6th
grade reading level.. After reading the books, students may
vote on which book they like the best. The book which receive the
most votes win the "Sunshine State Book Award."
Two teams of students read
the books at their level. Twelve of these students in the 3rd -
5th grade and 12 in the 6th grade are selected to represent Cape View
Elementary at the County "Book Bash" contest in April. Students
play trivia games based on the books, design book jackets, and act out
scenes from the stories. Last year, the Cape View team earned an
outstanding rating!
